Northland Fish & Game BOW Programme

SATURDAY 14th March 2010
Venue: Northern Wairoa Gun Club, Dargaville. The Gun Club is sign posted on the left coming into Dargaville from Whangarei along State Highway 14.

A Fish & Game Banner will also be on the entrance to the driveway leading to the Gun Club.

Please bring with you stout footwear for the shooting. (No open shoes allowed on the range) and wet weather clothing 

9.30 am to 9.45 am  - Tea & Coffee & Refreshments available

10.15am
1. Introduction to Firearms & Firearms Safety: instruction on the basic types of firearms, firearms safety, the how-to’s of selecting firearms and their handling. This will not include actual shooting.

2. Clay Target Shooting: instruction and practice.

12.00 to 12.45 pm - Lunch Break

1.45 pm to 2.30pm
More clay target shooting

3.00 pm to 4.30pm
A visit to the Flaxmill Wetlands for a presentation on the management of Northland Fish & Game wetlands and species (birds and fish)
Please bring a pair of gumboots or footwear that you don’t mind getting wet.

SUNDAY 15th March 2010
Venue: Kai Iwi Lakes are situated 35 kilometers’ north west of Dargaville off State Highway 14.  A map will be presented at the Gun Club for those unfamiliar with their location.

9.15am - Tea & Coffee & Refreshments 

9.30am
Fishing for Trout: demonstration of: tackle & gear required; differences between different types of fly fishing such as dry and wet fly, nymph and lure; fly tying as well as how to cast.
If you have access to a pair of waders that fit you, can you please bring those with you. Fish & Game will have some sets but not enough to provide a pair for every one.
 
LUNCH BREAK 12.30 to 2.00pm - Outdoor Cooking: demonstration on preparing and cooking game meat outdoors.

After Lunch
Fishing on the Kai Iwi Lakes.

4.30pm - Approximate finish time for the weekend.
