The BOW course

Fish & Game now runs only one BOW weekend course a year, at which we aim to have no more that 25 participants. The course costs $220, which includes the coaching, equipment and meals but not any accommodation or transport. The course is now being run by Fish & Game Northland, with venues at the North Wairoa Gun Club, in Dargaville, and the Kai Iwi Lakes.

 

 

 

 

PROGRAMME
Day One - SATURDAY

9.30am to 11.30am

1. Introduction to Firearms & Firearms Safety: instruction on the basic types of firearms, bull and trajectories, firearms safety, the how-to’s of selecting firearms and their handling. This will not include actual shooting.

11.30am to 1.30pm

2. Clay Target Shooting: instruction and practice.

Venue: North Wairoa Gun Club, in Dargaville

LUNCH BREAK 1.30 to 2.30pm

2.30 to 4.30pm

4. Clay Target Shooting practice

Followed by a wetlands habitat presentation

Day Two – SUNDAY

9.30am to 4.30pm includes MORNING TEA BREAK and LUNCH BREAK

5. Fly Fishing for Trout: demonstration of: tackle & gear required; differences between different types of fly fishing such as dry and wet fly, nymph and lure; fly tying as well as how to cast.

Venue: The Kai Iwi Lakes near Dargaville.

LUNCH BREAK 1.30 to 2.30pm - Outdoor Cooking: demonstration on preparing and cooking trout and venison outdoors, using several different recipes. This will be the basis of a picnic lunch.

7. Fly-tying: demonstration and workshop.
