Salmon Still Arriving In Canterbury

Salmon are still being caught in good numbers along the Canterbury coast. The Rangitata is continuing to perform with 30+ fish landed last Friday and many more lost. The size of the salmon is still good however the large 30 pounders are becoming a bit thinner on the ground with the fish now averaging around 15-16 pounds. Up river fishermen have been doing particularly well with recent fresh’s providing just the right amount of colouration to fool the fish into a strike.

Catches in the Opihi have been good as well with some mornings producing 15+ fish at the mouth and what is likely to be many more upstream in the lagoon. The recent rain received has allowed the mouth of the Opihi to blow out and provided passage for fish waiting in the sea.
