Lake Opuha Fishing Competition.
Hamish Stevens, Fish and Game Officer

The annual Fairlie Lions Lake Opuha Fishing competition was held on Sunday. The day couldn’t have been better with light winds and very few clouds about to block the hot sun.

Over 150 people entered the competition with a large proportion of these being kids who were after a monster from the deep! 81 Brown trout were weighed in with the heaviest fish at 1.354kg caught by Mark Watson from Albury.

This is easily the most Brown trout ever weighed in at the competition and suggests that the fishery is continuing to improve from year to year. Overall anglers were very happy with their day out this year and many secured limit bags while others dwelled on the big ones that got away!
