Angler Access/survey news– by Matt Osborne
An information pamphlet illustrating access into the Tarawera River is to be produced shortly. This will complement work recently completed by Fish & Game, Hancock Forest Management and Maori Investments Ltd. within the pine forest above Kawerau in which roads were opened up and signage placed indicating angler access.
There is a lot of quality water available throughout the Eastern Region so instead of trundling back to the same old spots, get out and try somewhere new. We have an extensive range of lake and river information brochures available for the region, contact us or visit your licensing agent for copies.
Remember that Didymo remains a threat, so remember to check clean and dry all fishing equipment before and after fishing and most importantly between waterways.
Winter is almost here and the lake shoreline fly-fishing is about to fire as well-conditioned spawning fish head for the tributaries. Fish & Game staff will be out as usual on Lakes Tarawera, Rotoiti and Okataina conducting surveys and checking licenses. We thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation. Remember to carry your licenses on you at all times while fishing; don’t leave them in your boat or in the car.
