Results form October 1st 2007 – 2 year old fish
– by Matt Osborne

A quick glance at the data we collected on October 1st indicates things are shaping up well for the coming season. The catch rates on Tarawera and Okataina were both up on the previous year. Rotoiti was slightly lower, but received less pressure on the day – perhaps as a result of the weather forecast.

Anglers were generally very happy with the days fishing and favorable comments were received from all of the big three lakes plus the Ohau channel. The largest fish we recorded on Rotoiti was a 3.61 kg 3yr-old rainbow. Okataina produced a 3.3kg rainbow and Tarawera a 2.9 kg rainbow. The Ohau Channel produced a 5.6kg brown and several rainbows exceeding 4kg.

The table below summarizes the catch of 2 year fish from the regions main lakes.
