LAKE ANIWHENUA & RANGITAIKI RIVER SYSTEM

Like most places, the area has just received the very much needed rain this past week. Anglers didn’t appear to be out and about as much with the change of weather. However the rain was never heavy enough at any stage to dirty the waters and we were able to fish right through.

The rivers are looking good. The rises lately have been pretty spasmodic. Only occurring as each hatch takes place during the day. Once the sun returns this can only increase as we head into high summer. Before you know it the cicadas will be making an appearance.

Lake Aniwhenua continues to fish well. Anchoring up or sitting on the weed beds and fishing the troughs has been great. Spin fishers have been doing really good. If you want to catch the bigger fish it pay to fish deep. Drifting and fishing the surface usually produces plenty of fish but normally the smaller ones are up top. The trout appear to be in very good condition.

Well, another year has just about gone. Have a great Christmas everyone and take care. Hopefully we may see some of you over the holiday period.

Cheers,
Joan Ryder
