LAKE ANIWHENUA & RANGITAIKI RIVER SYSTEM
There has been no rain to speak of for quite a while now. In fact the Galatea valley is really starting to dry out. As the rivers run lower they generally fish better.
The Whirinaki river has been fishing very good. The dry fly has started and there’s been a mixed bag of sizes but all Browns and Rainbows are in great condition.
The Rangitaiki river is still proving to be a great venue. The Te Awa area is reportedly producing much bigger sized fish this year. The forestry section between Murupara and Flaxy has a lot of different sections to fish giving anglers a good variety of waters. Spin fishing is very productive in this river.
Flaxy lake has been producing 8lb+ fish to anglers. The reports of all these huge fish cruising the weed beds is amazing. These fish seem highly educated so time and patience is of utmost importance.
Lake Aniwhenua is fishing good as usual. For some reason the shore angling has been a bit harder this past week. Boaties have been the most rewarded. Plenty of fish in this lake with good damsel, mayfly and midge hatches happening.
