Fisheries > Waikato River System
The Waikato River is the largest in New Zealand, and offers a number of high catch rate fishing opportunities. Anglers keen to escape the crowds will find that the Waikato River system and associated hydro lakes are well worth a visit. Fish and Game New Zealand, Eastern Region has produced a pamphlet detailing the Waikato fishery within its boundaries and anglers should consult this for more detailed information. The hydro lakes lend themselves to early season harling and anglers will get the best success during the summer by fishing at the cool water stream mouths that enter the lake and river. The most productive areas are around the Pueto and Deep Creek stream mouths in the Broadlands area. |
