Hawke’s Bay Fishing Report
From Grant Petherick
Although the weather has been much more settled this month, occasional thunderstorms in the ranges are keeping the main rivers full, and in the case of the Ngaruroro, still a little off colour.
Even the Tukituki has been prone to rainfall in the ranges . To the frustration of many, an eagerly anticipated visit to the Tuki on a brilliantly fine day has been greeted by torrent of brown, unfishable water . Fortunately these “ mini-floods” dissipate quickly and the river usually comes right in a day or two. Even so, this is not much consolation to the guy on the spot and one way to avoid this unhappy situation is to check on the HB regional councils web site before heading out. A tab on the right hand side of the home page is entitled “ River Levels” and opening this will provide flow data for several of the main watersheds in HB.
Unfortunately, data for the Mohaka is not available on this site but I can report that levels here have been dropping and we had the good fortune of picking up a couple of small but scrappy rainbows on the dry in the middle of the day this very week. Hopefully a sign of things to come….. Good fishing.
