Goose hunt update

The winter goose hunt was held on Queens Birthday Weekend in cold conditions.

The hunt was successful, with no major incidents, and a total of 342 geese were shot. Such a small tally is not unexpected as geese are generally in big mobs and decoy shy at this time of the year.

Some blocks shot well, while others saw relatively few geese. The blocks shooting well at this time of year varies somewhat from year to year. The previous year’s winter shoot had a slightly larger tally of 371 geese shot.

Fish and Game staff member Lawson Davey again assisted with the hunts program students at Sedgemere, which included 7 Nelson College students as well as two adult trainee hunters.

An enjoyable weekend was had by most despite the low numbers of geese.
