Nelson Marlborough draft Sportsfish and Gamebird Management Plan publicly notified for comments

Take your chance to have a say in sports fish and game bird management.  The Nelson Marlborough Fish and Game Council has approved its 10 year management plan for public submissions which close on the 5th of October 2007.  The plan covers the main activities of the Council in the region, including sports fish and game bird species management, setting regulations for fishing and hunting, habitat protection and advocacy, managing licenceholder interests including access for fishing and hunting, relationships with the wider community and compliance and law enforcement.  Copies of the plan are
available from the Fish and Game offices in Richmond and Blenheim and other Fish and Game regions; at public libraries in Richmond, Motueka, Takaka, Nelson, Blenheim and Picton; the DOC office in Renwick, information centre in Murchison and Kaikoura District Council office. An online pdf copy of the plan and a Word copy of a submission form are also available.  Copies of the plan have also been made available to fishing and hunting clubs in the region.  Anyone wishing their own copy can contact the Richmond Fish and Game office and purchase a copy for $8 each to cover printing costs.

On receipt of public submissions, the Council may hold hearings if requested and then will amend the plan where appropriate and provide it to the Minister of Conservation for his approval.  Once approved the plan binds the Council and other bodies such as local authorities and government departments need to have regard to it in their planning.  We look forward to any of your comments.
