THE GREAT NORTH CANTERBURY FISH & GAME
GOOSE HUNT & SPORTING CLAY SHOOT

2nd February – 23rd May 2008
Goose Shoot – Free Entry

North Canterbury Fish & Game are holding a Canada goose shooting competition during the special Canada goose hunting season, from February to April 2008 and also for the first three weeks of the gamebird hunting season in May. The aim of the competition is to encourage recreational hunters both in the North Canterbury and neighbouring regions to increase the harvest of geese and therefore lessen the extent to which Fish & Game are required to carry out control operations.

To enter the competition, present a pair of goose legs and you will receive a ticket number. For every extra pair of goose legs you will be allocated another ticket number.  There is no limit to the number of entries per person.  Legs will be accepted at the North Canterbury Fish & Game office between Monday the 19th and Friday the 23rd May, 8:30am – 5pm.  No legs will be accepted at the event. Goose legs must be tied together in pairs and frozen separately. Legs will not be accepted in a solid block or a decayed state. All legs will be inspected for authenticity.

The prize draw will be held at the Waihora Clay Target Club in conjunction with a sporting clay shoot on Sunday the 25th May commencing at 9:30 am sharp. A BBQ will be run throughout the day.

To enter the sporting clay shoot you have to be entered in the goose shooting competition and have a full seasons hunting licence.

There will be a range fee of $35 for the sporting clay shoot payable to the Waihora Clay Target Club on the day.

The Great North Canterbury Fish & Game Canada Goose Hunt and Sporting Clay Shoot - Competition Rules

The Great Canada Goose Hunt Main Prize Draw
Four tags will be placed in a container: red, white, green and blue. These tags will then be drawn to determine the order of the draw for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th prizes. The first colour out will be second prize, second colour out will be third prize, third colour out will be fourth prize and fourth colour out will be fifth prize, and then this process will be repeated for 6th to 9th prizes.

Two draws will then be made from each of the four categories containers.

All tickets from the four categories will then be placed in one container for the major/first prize draw.

Prize for the Most Geese Shot
Prizes for the “most geese shot” are not drawn. These prizes will be awarded based on the number of pairs of goose legs entered by the individual hunter.  First prize will go to the hunter who presented the most pairs of legs, second prize to the second highest number and so on.

Sporting Clay Shoot Draw
The sporting clay shoot will be a drawn prize event run under the same rules as the Hunting and Fishing Shoots.

Spot Prizes Draw
There will be four categories in the spot prize draw: Red, White, Green and Blue so everyone has an equal chance. Tickets from all the categories will be in for the main prize draw.  You can enter one category only.
Categories are:

• Red 1 – 5 legs
• White 6 – 15 legs
• Green   16 – 40 legs
• Blue 41 legs and over

Spot prizes will be drawn every half an hour, one ticket from each category. There is a maximum of one spot prize per person, on the day.  The names of the winners will be placed on a white board. Please check this when you come in from a clay shoot.

On completion of the clay shoot, the World Goose Calling Championship will be held followed by the trophy and prize awards. Prizes for the clay shoot and the most geese shot will be awarded next.

Conditions of the Competition Regarding Firearms Prizes
Hunters supervising junior hunters please be aware of the supervision law. It is illegal to give a firearm as a prize to a person who does not have a firearms licence. We therefore suggest that the person supervising a junior hunter enters any goose legs the junior shoots and allocates the junior an appropriate number of ticket numbers and should the junior win a firearm as a prize; the supervisor can claim the firearm and hold it in trust for the minor.

Please Note:
All prizes will be awarded on the day. You must present a current full season hunting licence to claim any prize and a fire arms licence must be presented when claiming a firearm prize. If you fail to do this the prize will be redrawn. You must be present at the prize draw to collect a prize or firearm. You cannot claim a prize for another person. To enter and be eligible to win a prize in the sporting clay shoot you have to be entered in the Great North Canterbury Canada Goose Hunt competition (you would have presented at least one pair of geese legs and been allocated a ticket number).

North Canterbury Fish & Game take no responsibility for any accidents or injuries incurred during this event. Hunters should be aware of the hazards that exist when hunting and abide by the regulations as stipulated with your firearms licence. This competition does not entitle hunters to shoot on private property and hunters should gain the landowners permission before entering private property. Any person or persons breaching the rules will be disqualified from all aspects of the event.
