New Resource Consent Applications from Central Plains Water

Central Plains Water have recently lodged a number of new resource consent applications. Submitters to earlier applications should have received notification of these in the post.

Submissions on these new applications must be lodged with Environment Canterbury (and for land use consent and designation applications, the Selwyn District Council) by 5pm Friday June 1.

These new applications relate to two additional bywash/emergency discharges (one to the Selwyn River, and one to the Hawkins River), as well as applications associated with a tunnel which would replace a short section of an open canal used to transport water to farmers.

Staff at North Canterbury Fish & Game have received a number of queries about these new applications. To quickly clarify some misunderstandings:

  • You must make a NEW submission in order to comment on these new applications. Your original submission entitles you to comment only on the original applications.
  • The new applications DO NOT change the amount of water being taken, or the locations of the water takes. All that has changed is that a short section of canal will be replaced with a pipe – and that two new discharges have been added.

For more information on the new applications, some potential concerns, and how to have your say, please click on the link below.
