Northland Fish & Game Council Regional Roundup
Fishing throughout the region has been we suspect low priority with the warmer summer temperatures as folks place fishing intensity towards salt-water species. As mentioned in the accompanying hunting article the resurgence of waterways throughout northland will have been greatly enhanced with the February flooding.
A high percentage of fish will have moved into upper streams a river with this dramatic fresh. With water clarity and depth returning to normal levels anglers can expect to catch some reasonable specimens. Tree lined upper reaches with adequate flow will be the areas to target as the larger fish seek the abundant insect life around at the moment.
On the reservoir and lakefronts very few reports have filtered back through the office. Like the hunting, anglers can expect the cooler months, which are not to far away to start presenting more opportunity and variety. Fish sighted during routine surveying work have been of good size and weight so we should expect to have a bumper winter fishery depending on amount of watery stuff we have thrown at us. |
