Northland Fish & Game Council Regional Roundup
A very quiet subject at the moment with only the very keen out and about in pursuit of the pre-spawning run of fish. Once again we think the warmer than normal weather patterns and the abundance of pre winter snapper which are running late is distracting anglers from their normal angler activity.
As winter approaches (we hope) anglers will be dusting off their sinking lines in order to target lakes and reservoirs.
These put and take hatchery reared released fish will be coming into season shortly as they try to spawn along structures and shallow margins due to the absence of suitable flowing oxygenated inflows.
During this period of the year these fish are easily targeted by shore based anglers who with patience and the right flies can take their limit in no time. Creel information indicates usually trout of good size and condition so the effort is certainly worth the wait. Smaller flies seem to do the damage so get those tackle boxes sorted as August is fast approaching.
With little feedback coming to the office this edition is a little lacking but one can be sure it is about to get a whole lot busier.
Until next month, tight lines.
