First class travel for hatchery trout
A new, purpose built liberation trailer has been put to immediate work for this seasons rainbow trout releases. The smart galvanised trailer with a stainless tank is a major improvement on the previous aging unit which was heavy, awkward to load and used the pure oxygen supply uneconomically.

Fish & Game Officer Ian Hadland said the shiny new unit, built jointly by Davidson Engineering and Tin Smith Metal Works was an absolute pleasure to work with and fish were arriving at their liberation destinations in top condition. “Those engineers listened carefully to improvements on the old unit we wanted and solved every problem we threw at them. The result exceeded all expectations” Mr Hadland said.

Davidson Engineering principle Gary Davidson was modest but quietly chuffed with the overall result and noted it was one of the more unusual items he had built and that it had generated a fair bit of interest.

The cost of the new unit was considerably helped by a large donation from Fish & Game’s Macraes Trout Hatchery partner Oceana Gold NZ Ltd. “They have been committed to the Macraes hatchery project from the start and this is just further evidence of our successful and productive ongoing relationship” Mr Hadland said
