Canada Geese – Get out there and take up the challenge.

The Canada goose is widely regarded as a premium gamebird both in terms of the hunting challenge and table fare.  As you may have seen from publicity in the media – there are still plenty of Canada geese in the Wairarapa – and DoC is currently reviewing their future status as a gamebird.  It’s up to you to maximise the harvest!

While the Wellington Fish & Game Council is still looking at further organised hunts at Lake Wairarapa – all hunters should be trying to target the birds throughout the season, in all areas.  This means right throughout the Wellington Fish & Game region – so if you have a large group of geese on the Kapiti coast or upper Manawatu, please organise a group of hunters to maximize the harvest.  It is up to you to show that hunters can help manage geese to a level that landholders are more comfortable with.

If you’re not too sure on how to go about it – ask for advice at your local hunting store.
