...... to the November edition of Reel Life.
The most significant news this month was the North Island Didymo scare. Thankfully, there is no live Didymo in the North Island, but this has served as a timely reminder ahead of the Christmas holidays of the need for constant vigilance when travelling between fisheries – clean, check and dry.
As we get close to the holidays, and many of you are planning some time on the lake or river, don’t forget to buy a licence – it’s easy online.
It’s also a great time to advertise on Reel Life Classifieds – and have a chance to win one of our great monthly prizes.
Around the regions this month: Northland report back on their successful fishing competition held earlier this month, and also raise the issue of the expanding dairy industry and its potential environmental impact.
Auckland / Waikato brings news of an Environmental Court sentencing, a new fishing area on the Whanganui River and more.
Eastern continues to promise a very productive season, with great results from their recent international competition.
In Taranaki condition at time of going to press were cool and low in most waters whilst Wellington has published its full spring newsletter with seasons prospects from around the region.
Heading down to the mainland, there have been some great up-river reports from the West Coast.
In the Central South Island, we report on a South Canterbury angler survey, the Lake Opuha competition and the news that around the region this season looks to be shaping up to be one of the best!
In Otago, a report is available after the completion of the second Clutha River access study. The Otago lakes are also producing some fine fish right now.
High river flows continue to flush Didymo out of the Southland rivers where some good rainbows are to be had.
Amongst our regular columns, Hugh Creasy takes an idyllic stroll along the river bank in At the End are the Rainbows, whilst this month The Idle Thoughts of an Idle Editor turn to a tongue-in-cheek look at the spirit of Christmas.
Regular guiding contributors complete this issue with their fishing reports – just navigate from the regional menu to the left to see these. If you would be interested in submitting a regular report, just let me know.
By the way, if you want to check out back issues of Reel Life, they are now available here.
Fish well
