Reel Life Oct 2011

September 2011

The new season is here!

Welcome to a new-look Reel Life to kick off the new fishing season.

In this issue we hope you'll find all the regional reports, updates, tips and info you need to be primed and ready for October 1.

Remember also that opening falls on a Saturday this season so, as long as the weather Gods smile, there's no reason not to get into it.

If you've been too tied up in the World Cup or other events, it still isn't too late to grab your licence – you can purchase yours through our website at www.fishandgame.org.nz.

Print out the emailed receipt and use that until your proper licence arrives in the post. Most of the Fish & Game regions are predicting a great season ahead so ensure you don't miss out.

And, if you've got friends or family who can't figure out what all the fuss is about when it comes to the excitement surrounding our world-class fishery, point them in the direction of our new mini website – www.fishaway.co.nz .

For those not so familiar with trout fishing, the site aims to make it easy to get a licence, get some gear and give it a go.We hope you can get out on opening day and wish you tight lines for the forthcoming season!

Creasy's Column - By Hugh Creasy

Happiness Restored

Turbid water, muddy bottom and slow flow – just the conditions that suited my mood.

"You've got gout,” the doctor had said. "The blood tests show high levels of all the wrong things. Change your diet, change your habits and here's a scrip that will fix it.”

It all started on the Wairau River nearly a year ago, when my titanium-studded wading boots failed to grip on a slippery slab of rock and I slid at speed into a rock wall... Read more
