Reservoir update
Lake Manuwai has been producing some good fishing at the moment. Non-motorised craft (kayaks and rowboats) can be used and is a good way to get too the hard-to-reach bays around its shoreline. All methods work well. If spinning from a kayak try and target the reed beds around the edges. Most lure colourations work. The good old reliable Mepps/Veltic and Rapala style lures are my choice. Any midge fly imitations seem to produce. Summer patterns like green beetle and bees/wasps are also the trout’s favourite at this time of year.

River and stream update
Recent rains have lifted water levels and flushed the systems. We are getting reports of fish being caught throughout the Wairua catchment.
We need your help!!
Keep sending in those fish photos. It’s good to see what Northland is producing. Weight and length information would also be appreciated for research purposes.
Take the Family Fishing
The new season commences on Saturday 1st October 2024. The family licence is by far the best value for money licence on offer. A family licence can be made up of two parents or grandparents and up to four of their children or grandchildren under the age of 18. This licence can also be used anywhere in NZ, except the Lake Taupo fishery.
