With only a month to go till Christmas, now is the time to start planning your holiday fishing adventures. 

In our mind, the best summer holidays revolve around fishing! 

There are so many fishing options available in December; it’s a great time to target brown trout, rainbow trout, and salmon.

Don’t forget about the great eating perch that your sports fishing licence gives you access to – they come into their own in the summer months and are great for kids fishing expeditions.

The West Coast Fish & Game team has put this video together on fishing for perch; you can use these techniques anywhere in the country you can fish for perch. 

NIWA’s seasonal outlook for December says high-pressure systems are becoming more common, temperatures are likely to be above average, and everything points to good weather for the summer break.

There are loads of fishing opportunities around the country, and remember, every bridge you cross is a fishing opportunity.
