The Inch Clutha Reserve is a 5-hectare, Otago Fish & Game-owned wetland located near Balclutha. This reserve is dedicated to providing quality hunting opportunities, with a specific focus on accessibility and encouraging new hunters.
Hunting Opportunities
Practical and safe ramp with handrails.
View from accessible maimai.

Room for wheelchairs.
- Accessible Maimai: A purpose-built, wheelchair-accessible maimai (constructed in 2026). Mobility-impaired hunters receive priority access. Click on Google Maps link.
- Hunting Location 1: A separate hunting area without a permanent maimai. Junior and novice hunters receive priority access for this location. Bring your own temporary blind or use trees as cover. Click on Google Maps link.
Access & Permits
- Opening Fortnight: Permits are allocated via a ballot for the first two weekends of the season.
- Rest of Season: Other hunters may obtain permits to access the wetland following the ballot period.
- Important Note: Marking-up of hunting stands is not permitted at Inch Clutha.
Location & Directions
The reserve is located approximately 7km from Balclutha.
- Take the Kaitangata Highway to Stirling.
- Cross the bridge over the Clutha River.
- Turn right onto Hislop Rd.
- Turn right onto Chicory Rd.
- The reserve is located at the end of Chicory Rd on the left-hand side.
