There are specific seasons in North Canterbury that fall outside the normal Game Bird Season.

Summer Paradise Shelduck Season

When: February (whole month) and March (whole month)
Where: Area B

This special summer season offers excellent hunting opportunities for paradise shelducks. All hunting must take place over agricultural grain crops or green feed paddocks, and must be at least 200 metres away from any body of water.

Summer Mallard Season

When: First two weekends of February
Where: Area B

Hunters can target mallards during this short double weekend summer season. All hunts must be over grain crops or green feed paddocks, and a minimum of 200 metres from any body of water.
