The slow-moving upper Taieri River can be drift-hunted from a small rowboat, kayak or canoe through a series of winds and oxbows. One full-day option is from Cogans Bridge, on Puketoi Rd, down to Halls Bridge, Maniototo Rd. Another option is from Creamery Rd, above the Ranfurly-Patearoa Rd bridge, down to Green Bridge on Patearoa Rd, near Waipiata.
It is advisable not to drift-hunt early in the season, to avoid disrupting hunters on riverside stands. Be aware of your obligations under the Arms Act 1983, and respect private property.
