TASMAN PINE FORESTS UPLAND GAME HUNTING
Fish & Game are pleased to announce we have secured an arrangement with Tasman Pine Forests to provide a great upland game hunting opportunity in Tasman.
We have identified eight hunting blocks in the Moutere Forest area that are set aside for upland game hunting over weekends during the game season, starting on 1 May.
The block is accessed via forest entry points in Pigeon Valley, Eves Valley, Trass Valley & Supplejack Valley. The hunting areas are very large, with plenty of room for a full day's hunting.
Above Right: The forests around the region hold good populations of quail.
Visit the website below for more information, and to book yourself and your hunting mates a block.
We hope hunters make the most of this opportunity.
OFO FOREST PERMIT ACCESS
We have also recently met with the other main forest management company, OneFortyOne (OFO), for similar facilitated hunting access which will be in place for next season.
In the meantime, it is possible for hunters to gain access to large areas of OFO forests (General Access blocks) by getting an annual permit ($50) which allows for vehicle access during weekends and public holidays. For the OFO access policy and maps click here.
RABBIT ISLAND PHEASANT HUNT
The Rabbit Island/Moturoa hunts are all go again for this year – the 5th year the hunts will be taking place. We will be holding three hunts, with the dates set at:
Saturday 5 June
Saturday 19 June
Saturday 17 July
For those who have not attended a hunt, if successful you will have a morning to hunt a specific block on the eastern part of Rabbit Island, ideally with a bird dog or two. You are welcome to bring 1-2 hunting mates along also.
To put your name in the ballot for any or all of the hunts, email Jacob Lucas here.
WAKAPUAKA PUKEKO DRIVE
The date for the annual Wakapuaka pukeko drive has been set for Sunday 11 July.
This year, in order to get sufficient numbers of hunters for a successful shoot, we are calling for registrations prior to the event in order to reach a minimum of 50 hunters.
Register for the shoot here.
