Tokoroa ‘Take a Kid Fishing’ Competition

The Tokoroa Sports Fishing Association is preparing for its popular annual Take a Kid Fishing Competition.

The event will be held on November 3rd, 4th and 5th at Lake Moana-nui in Tokoroa.

Secretary Graham Gawn says that in the past, the contest has attracted around 300 children aged between 3 and 12, some of whom have never fished before.

“This year we are looking to expand the competition to include teenagers aged from 13 to 18.

“On registration each child under 12 receives a free one year trout licence, and weekend access to the lake for a great fishing experience.”

Graham says that the prize pool has in the past included fishing rods, sports equipment and all sorts of other great prizes, there are even spot prizes for the parents.

On registering, children have also received a goodie bag including sunscreen, water and popcorn.

The club welcomes any help or sponsorship with this very popular family-oriented event, Graham says.
