Fish & Game offers junior hunting opportunity

Fish & Game is offering 12 young people a great wetland duck hunting experience.

If you’d like your son or daughter or other family member to be part of this unique opportunity, run to strict safety guidelines, let us know!

Two well-built and maintained maimais, nestled in raupo, offer plenty of open water to shoot over. Turn up with your personal gear, callers, decoys, gun, and waders (a must have), and hopefully the ducks and weather will cooperate.

The programme is aimed strictly at junior licenceholders only.  The supervising adult (with firearms licence) will act as a mentor for the day’s hunt, and hopefully enjoy the outing, passing on their skills and knowledge.

Each maimai will have one hunter (and supervisor), and the wetland will only be hunted during the weekends of the mallard season – excluding Opening Weekend when the wetland is closed to all hunting. The chosen juniors will be able to hunt both Saturday and Sunday of their allocated weekend.

The weekends are: 12-13 May, 19-20 May, 26-27 May, 2-3 June, 9-10 June, 16-17 June. Weekends will be allocated and are non-transferable.

Some conditions apply so please read the information below. Access details are also included below.

 Applicants will need to provide:

  •         Full name
  •         2018 game bird licence number
  •         Address (email or postal)
  •         Contact phone number
  •         Supervising adult name and firearms licence number

Email these details to jmeikle@fishandgame.org.nz . The names of the 12 juniors selected will be  randomly drawn.

Please note that entries for this junior hunt close on Friday, April 20. The successful young people will be notified the following week.
