Kai Iwi Lakes Fishing Competition
The Kai Iwi lakes fishing competition was held over the first weekend in July.
We had around 50 anglers participating.
The winning fish was caught byDavid Yorke while flyfishing.
A 3.95kg jack rainbow is an impressive fish by anyone’s standards.
The average weight was over 2kg.
Good size fish (as pictured above) are still being caught over the winter/spring period.
Fishing at Whau Valley dam, Wilsons dam and lake Manuwai
The water levels have risen in these reservoirs.
Rainbows were liberated into all three of these dams this year.
They all provide easily accessible trout fishing in Northland.
Northlands river catchments
With good rains over the winter, the rivers and streams have recovered from a few years of successive droughts.
When they open again in spring some good angling should be possible.
Rainbows were liberated into the Kerikeri River catchment this year.
This river along with the Puketona Stream runs through the township of Kerikeri and there are many access points along their lengths
