2026 Otago Adult Beginner Fishing Classes

Want to learn how to spin-fish for trout, salmon and perch?

Otago Fish & Game will be running free adult beginner fishing classes in Mosgiel, Cromwell and Wānaka before the opening of the 2026/2027 fishing season.

Each participant will attend one evening theory class and a day-time practical fishing session.

Topics will include freshwater sports fish species, legal methods, rods, lures, bait, knots, where to go fishing, licences, regulations, and more. 

• Registration is essential. Please enroll before 27 August 2026.
• Maximum of 12 people per theory class.
• Adult classes are for ages 18 and above, giving you the skills to teach our tamariki.

Note: Please register for only ONE theory class.

 

THEORY CLASSES 6.30PM - 8.30PM

MOSGIEL:

PRACTICAL FISHING SESSIONS

• Saturday 5 September 
• Cromwell: 10am-noon
• Dunedin: 1pm-2.30pm

Field trip participants must first attend a theory class.

Spin rods and lures provided or bring your own.
